This week may be ending, but our commitment continues. Each of us has the power to bring light to someone’s darkest moment. Keep reaching out, keep listening, and keep reminding others that they are valued.

As we wrap up Safe Schools Week, remember that safety doesn’t stop here. Students and parents can always report concerns anonymously through the STOP Tipline, which you can find on our district website, or you can call directly at 866-393-6659. When we speak up, we look out for one another, and that’s how we keep our schools safe, every day.

Suicide Prevention Week – Thought for the Day:
How can you recognize when someone might be struggling? Watch for changes—withdrawal from friends, loss of interest in activities, mood shifts, or talk of feeling hopeless. Noticing the signs is the first step toward offering help. If you or someone you know needs support, call or text 988 anytime.

Parents play a key role in online safety. Take time to check in on your child’s digital world—review privacy settings, set healthy screen limits, and talk about what’s safe to share online. Together, we can stop problems before they start.

Suicide Prevention Week - Thought for the Day: What does it take to spark hope? A simple “How are you really doing?” can open the door to hope. Don’t be afraid to check in on a friend or loved one. Your words matter.

Kentucky Safe Schools Week - Today's Focus: Conversation. One of the best ways parents can help keep schools safe is by keeping the conversation going at home. Open-ended questions like “What was the best part of your day?” or “Did anything worry you today?” encourage children to share their feelings and experiences. When students feel heard, they’re more likely to speak up if something is wrong. Talking builds trust—and trust creates the safe, supportive environment every child deserves.

🫛🌿 Snapping into learning at Barren County Middle!

As part of our Barren Beyond the Bell program, Coordinator Amanda Shirley and staff member Kelsey Gregg helped students fill 15 raised garden beds with Sugar Snap Peas. Together, they’re digging into lessons that go far beyond the classroom . They are learning teamwork, responsibility, and the pride of growing something with their own hands. 💪✨

Before long, these sweet peas will be ready to harvest and head from the garden to the cafeteria, giving students a real taste of their hard work! 🍴🌱

It’s Suicide Prevention Awareness Week, and we’re sharing simple ways we can all support one another—because listening, caring, and connecting truly make a difference. Sometimes the best gift you can give is your time and attention. Listen without judgment. A safe space can make all the difference. If you or someone you know needs help, call or text 988 for the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.

Safe Schools Week is here! This year’s Kentucky theme is “Focus on School Safety.” At Barren County Schools, we believe the best way to keep schools safe is by staying connected with our students, our families, and our community.

Safety is everyone’s responsibility. Together, we can:
✔️ Look out for one another
✔️ Speak up using the STOP Tipline on our website
✔️ Keep open lines of communication

Take the School Safety Pledge today and join us in putting safety first: https://kycss.org/safe-schools-week/safety-week-pledge/

When we focus on safety, we create schools where every Trojan can learn, grow, and thrive.

🥬🌱 Red Cross Elementary is growing big dreams—right inside the classroom!

Last week, our Dirt to Dish program led by Barren Beyond the Bell Coordinator, Janet Harp, added Tower Gardens to classrooms. The goal? To harvest fresh lettuce that will go straight to the cafeteria for lettuce boats, salads, and taco days! 🌮🥗

This project isn’t just about food — it’s a Vibrant Learning Experience where students get hands-on with science, nutrition, and teamwork while watching their hard work grow. 💪✨

Who am I? That’s the question our 7th & 8th grade artists explored in their first two weeks of school, and their incredible work is now on display at the Southern Kentucky Performing Arts Center (SKYPAC)!

Over 120 pieces created by Barren County Middle School students are featured in the Wedge Education Gallery and can be viewed through September 29 during SKYPAC performances and Monday–Friday from 9–5.

A huge shout-out to Mrs. Sarah Vetter, BCMS art teacher, for leading this inspiring project and providing our students with the opportunity to showcase their creativity in such a meaningful way.
