Kentucky Safe Schools Week - Today's Focus: Conversation. One of the best ways parents can help keep schools safe is by keeping the conversation going at home. Open-ended questions like “What was the best part of your day?” or “Did anything worry you today?” encourage children to share their feelings and experiences. When students feel heard, they’re more likely to speak up if something is wrong. Talking builds trust—and trust creates the safe, supportive environment every child deserves.

As part of our Barren Beyond the Bell program, Coordinator Amanda Shirley and staff member Kelsey Gregg helped students fill 15 raised garden beds with Sugar Snap Peas. Together, they’re digging into lessons that go far beyond the classroom . They are learning teamwork, responsibility, and the pride of growing something with their own hands. 💪✨
Before long, these sweet peas will be ready to harvest and head from the garden to the cafeteria, giving students a real taste of their hard work! 🍴🌱

Safe Schools Week is here! This year’s Kentucky theme is “Focus on School Safety.” At Barren County Schools, we believe the best way to keep schools safe is by staying connected with our students, our families, and our community.
Safety is everyone’s responsibility. Together, we can:
✔️ Look out for one another
✔️ Speak up using the STOP Tipline on our website
✔️ Keep open lines of communication
Take the School Safety Pledge today and join us in putting safety first: https://kycss.org/safe-schools-week/safety-week-pledge/
When we focus on safety, we create schools where every Trojan can learn, grow, and thrive.

Last week, our Dirt to Dish program led by Barren Beyond the Bell Coordinator, Janet Harp, added Tower Gardens to classrooms. The goal? To harvest fresh lettuce that will go straight to the cafeteria for lettuce boats, salads, and taco days! 🌮🥗
This project isn’t just about food — it’s a Vibrant Learning Experience where students get hands-on with science, nutrition, and teamwork while watching their hard work grow. 💪✨

The new AG facility at BCHS is really coming to life, with big changes happening every week.
A huge shout-out to our amazing student workers who jumped in this summer and are making a difference every day:
Junior JD Mills, 2025 graduate Noah Bennett, and 2025 graduate Zack Flowers
These three have been working hard, learning a ton, and getting their hands dirty as part of this project. We’re proud to have them on board!
