Barren County students returned home from the 2026 National Beta Convention in Nashville with an impressive list of national recognitions, earning awards across academics, fine arts, leadership, and performing arts while representing their schools and community on the national stage. The convention brought together thousands of Beta members from across the country to compete, perform, and develop leadership skills.

Barren County High School students earned several prestigious individual honors:

  • Brady Cook - Second Place, Social Studies - 9th Grade

  • Emmory Shelton - Seventh Place, Sculpture - Division 1

  • Jaycee Bunch - Tenth Place, On-site Cake Decorating - Division

Barren County Middle School students earned first-place national titles in three competitions:

  • National Exhibition Meeting of the Minds

  • Presidential Campaign Skit

  • Performing Arts: Large Group Talent

Students also received several prestigious individual honors:

  • Micah Lucas – Premier Performer Vocalist

  • Sydney Byrd – Serving National Ambassador

  • Lily Key – Newly Elected National Junior Beta President

  • Colton Hall – Second Place, 8th Grade Health & P.E.

  • Kipper Todd – Eighth Place, 7th Grade Science

Several elementary schools also earned national recognition. North Jackson Elementary students received the following awards:

  • Davis Cook – 10th Place, Social Studies Test

  • Grayson Barrett – 4th Place, Science Test

  • Gracelyn McIntyre – 3rd Place, Black & White Photography

  • Emily Jiang, Nash Scruggs, Grayson Barrett and Davis Cook – 7th Place, Book Battle

  • Emily Jiang, Malcolm Wessling, Grayson Barrett and Davis Cook – 3rd Place, Quiz Bowl

  • Emily Costello – Junior Premier Performer

Park City Elementary student Lily Richardson earned 5th Place in Junior Digital Art.

Red Cross Elementary student Enslee Widau placed 7th Place, Onsite Drawing.

Hiseville Elementary student Lyric Clines placed 7th Place, Elementary Solo, Duo, Trio, Performing Arts Vocalist.

Superintendent Amy Irwin said the students' accomplishments reflect not only their talent but also the dedication of the educators, sponsors, and families who have supported them along the way.

"Our students continue to show what is possible when they are challenged to pursue excellence," Irwin said. "We are incredibly proud of each of them and grateful to the teachers, Beta sponsors, and families who helped make these achievements possible."

The National Beta Convention recognizes outstanding student achievement in academics, leadership, service, fine arts, and performance through national competitions held each summer.
