Important Message to Red Cross Parents

To the parents of Red Cross Elementary Students,

As many of you are aware based on media reports, the district has received an official complaint regarding a teacher at Red Cross Elementary.  As is our usual practice any time a complaint is received, the district is currently conducting an investigation to determine if inappropriate conduct has occurred.  In addition to our own internal investigation, we have reported the complaint to the Barren County Sheriff’s Department for assistance.  Our report to the Sheriff’s Department has led to communication with officials with the Kentucky State Police as well as the Department of Community Based Services.  These agencies have been conducting an independent investigation.  The teacher at issue has been placed on a leave of absence until the investigations have been completed.  All children at Red Cross Elementary are in a safe environment.  Because this matter involves a personnel issue and because the investigation process is ongoing, we cannot provide further details at this time.   However, if you have questions or concerns, you may contact Principal Jeff Moore at Red Cross Elementary or Superintendent Bo Matthews at the Barren County Board of Education.

On Wednesday, February 25th, 2015 Tara Miller was eating lunch at school just like any other day, but that lunch became a time to remember.    Miller took time to rate the food items at Temple Hill Elementary School, and her rating was drawn as the winner, one of over 2000 iPad Mini contest entries collected by Barren County Nutrition Services.   During the prize delivery, CheyAnne Fant, Director of Nutrition Services and 21st Century Programs, announced that the overall food ratings averaged 4 out of 5 stars.  “This is just a great example of how our meals are both appealing and nutritious,” Fant said, “We are so proud of the Nutrition Services staff members who care about how they provide meal services to our student, and these ratings show just that.”  The iPad Mini was donated to the Nutrition Services Department through a rebate program with a General Mills.
