During core reading instruction, students will be using the Reading Mastery series which is a direct instruction program designed to provide explicit, systematic instruction in English language reading. The program begins by teaching phonemic awareness and sound-letter correspondence and moves into word and passage reading, vocabulary development, comprehension, and building oral reading fluency. Students will develop reading comprehension skills and will become better fluent readers. In my resource room, students will be using the Recipe for Reading using a variety of Multi-Sensory Strategies to help young readers learn to decode and read passages, comprehend what was read, and spelling and writing.

Students will read a story each day and practice decoding strategies through oral and written formative assessments.  Fluency and comprehension checks will be monitored on a weekly basis. To help your student at home, have them read to you each night--"Practice Makes Perfect"!
