Special Olympics

Special Olympics provides year-round sports training and athletic competition to people with intellectual disabilities in almost all countries. Barren County started their own Special Olympics in 2002. The Barren County Special Olympics have competition in softball, bowling, golf, swimming, track and basketball. The age group can vary from the very young to the older adults. A certain age group does not necessarily play on the same team. Ability is the main concern when forming a team in the Special Olympics. These sport events are so important in the lives of the disabled individual and their families. Seeing a smile on their face says it all.
