BCMS Girls 7th & 8th Grade Basketball Tryouts

BCMS girl's basketball tryouts will be held May 2nd & 3rd, 2016 at Barren County Middle School.  All forms must be turned in to Coach Derek Atkinson at BCMS by April 29, 2016.  For questions or more information contact Coach Atkinson at BCMS.  Click Here to download the permission form.

Lose to Win Spring Challenge Winner

Barren County Schools host “Lose to Win” Challenge

Barren County Schools, through its district wellness program called We Can Get Healthy with 95210, recently completed the second “Lose to Win” weight-loss challenge. This semester long program, held from January to April, was developed to bring the school and community together to make lifestyle changes through healthy eating, exercise and weight loss for those staff members who chose to participate. The winner for Spring 2016 semester was Mrs. Summer Childress, an employee of Hiseville Elementary School.  Mrs. Childress, along with two other staff members, achieved more than a 10% percent weight reduction. In addition, thirteen staff members lost a minimum of 5% of their total body weight.

Mammoth Cave Explorers, Water Wonders, and Hot Shots camps are fast approaching.  Leadership and Practical Living summer camps offered at BCMS will also begin soon.  Find applications, permission forms and information about all summer camps here.

BCHS Student Art Show

The 2016 BCHS Student Art Show will be Wednesday, April 13th, from 4-6 p.m.  in the BCHS auditorium lobby.  This show will feature a large variety of student artwork created throughout the year.  The public is welcome to attend, admission is free, and refreshments will be served.

Students in Barren County Schools join millions of their peers across the country to celebrate the sixteenth annual National Education Association's (NEA) Read Across America Day on Wednesday, March 2, 2016. During lunch, all Barren County Schools will also have a menu to help celebrate with a special “Green Eggs and Ham” Brunch menu.

iLearn@Home Update - Next 2 Snow Days will be iLearn@Home

  • The two days of iLearn@home materials that have been created (Days 4 & 5) will be used on the next two snow days.
  • The materials and/or directions were distributed to the students the week of Feb 16th.
  • If you do not have materials or instructions please visit the teacher webpages or contact your child's school.  
  • We will use no more than 5 iLearn@home days this school year.
  • To summarize the days we have missed this year –
    • 3 iLearn@home days utilized – Jan 20, 21, 22
    • 5 Snow days – Jan 25, 26, Feb 9, 12, 15
    • This information is subject to change due to weather related closures that may occur in the coming weeks.

Beta Performance Cancelled Due to Weather Conditions

The Jr. Beta performance schedule for Sunday, February 14th at BCHS has been cancelled due to weather conditions.

BCHS vs Russellville Games are CANCELLED for tonight & rescheduled for Thursday Feb 11th starting at 5:30 pm.
There will be no Barren Co T-League games or practices tonight.

Any decisions about school tomorrow will be announced in the morning.

Weather Alerts!!

Good afternoon – due to the changing weather conditions and the forecasted temperature drop, the Barren County 21st Century programs AND elementary T-League basketball games and practices have been cancelled.   All other activities are still on schedule at this time.  Stay tuned to and social media for up to date information and cancellations.

**Greenwood has called and cancelled the BCHS Boys & Girls Basketball games that were scheduled  for tonight. (This was a rescheduled matchup from last week)

**All BCHS Practices must be completed by 5:00 PM tonight.

Baseball Season Information

Any middle school boy interested in playing baseball this season, needs to stop by Mr. Myatt's classroom (rm. 153) to pick up a form.

The Ralphe Bunch Soup kitchen in Glasgow, will be serving a free Thanksgiving meal to more than two thousand people. The community meal will be served from 11a.m. to 4p.m. Thanksgiving day. For more information on meal times or pick up, call the soup kitchen at (270)834-8537.

Children's Day Celebration

Please join us for our Children's Day Celebration at the beautiful Plaza Theatre here in Glasgow this Friday evening, November 20th from 6-8 pm. Children from Barren County Schools, Glasgow Schools, and Caverna Elementary School will be providing a musical program for everyone's enjoyment. Hope you can join us to see our precious children share their talents!

Basketball Season Tickets

Basketball season tickets will go on sale starting Monday November 16. From 8 until 12 each day Monday through Friday.
Season Tickets are $45 each - Student Tickets are $20 each

Grandparents will again get into the games free, if grandparents want a chair back reserved ticket, they will be half price.
Tickets will be on sale in Room 53 in the gym. Come to the front office to sign in before going to Room 53
Schedules will be available at this time.

Schools Closed Monday & Tuesday

There will be NO SCHOOL for students on Monday and Tuesday.   We will see you back on Wednesday Morning!

Parent Involvement Survey

As part of a research project we are asking parents to take a survey about their experiences regarding parental involvement at BCMS. This survey will take approximately 10-15 minutes. No personal information will be collected. 2015 Football Information

BCMS is excited to start the 2015 middle school football season. Mr. Nick Compton has been named the head football coach for both the 7th and 8th grade football teams.  There will be a parent meeting on June 29that 5:30 in the BCMS Media Center.  All participants must have a current sports physical in order to play.  We look forward to a great season full of pride, teamwork and tradition.


The Barren County High School Site-Based Decision Making Council has named Mr. Brad Johnson as their new principal.  Johnson succeeds Steve Riley who will be retiring June 30th, 2015.

Build A Bed Twin Sheet Drive

District Science & Engineering Fair & Art Show

Barren County Schools hosted the annual District Science and Engineering Fair for grades 5-8 on Tuesday, March 22, 2016. Each of the district’s seven elementary schools and Barren County Middle school advanced their school-level winners to the district competition.   The event was held at the BCHS Trojan Academy which provided an excellent venue for the event and allowed students to experience the high school setting.  Students from the Trojan Academy Science Club, advance science classes, Trojan Ambassador Program and BCMS Magnet students assisted at the event by providing tours, conducting interviews, and serving as judges for the night.

In addition, the District conducted an Art Showcase that allowed each school to showcase the artistic talents of many students.  The art work was displayed throughout the event.

Winner Announcement: Lose to Win Challenge 

Congratulations to Mr. Ashley Geralds, BCMS teacher, who stayed the course during the districtwide weight loss challenge called Lose to Win. 

BCMS Trojan Report

Barren Receives Grant Funds for Three Projects

The Barren County School District has been awarded a $5,500 grant from the WHAS Crusade for Children grant. Grant funds will be used to provide a desktop embosser and a Mountbatten Writer and Learning System to better serve visually impaired students.

Barren County Schools also received a $5,000.00 Farm to School grant. Funds will be used to place tower gardens in each of the district elementary schools and to support gardening and agriculture education at Barren County Middle School with the purchase of materials to support the school’s greenhouse program.   

The Barren County School District also received a Fresh Fruit and Vegetable grant from the KY Department of Education.  These grant funds will be used to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables for use in the cafeteria at Park City Elementary.

Lose To Win - Round II Employee Weight Loss Challenge

Start this semester off with the second District-wide Employee Lose To Win Weight Loss Challenge.   For more information and to start the challenge, please weigh in with your school nurse or designee.  Contest starts on Jan. 18 and ends on March 28th.  The individual with the highest percentage weight loss will get a prize package via the BC Wellness Committee.

Bucks for Barren is money raised by the Barren County Alumni Association and awarded to teachers alumni members in the district based on applications received.  The most recent awards were given to 5 teachers.

Dr. Gary A Ransdell visits BCHS

WKU President Dr. Gary Ransdell spoke to the Barren County High School senior class about higher education opportunities at Western Kentucky University.
BCHS is blessed to have a strong partnership with WKU which includes many dual credit courses for Barren County students.  Dr. Ransdell discussed offerings at WKU, the importance of pursuing higher education and getting involved in campus life.  Thank you to Dr. Ransdell for this opportunity for our students.

Student account balances can be paid at the Board of Education during regular business hours. For graduates who have a positive balance, refunds can be made at the same location.

Thank you for your service to our school district.  If you completed an ACA electronic time sheet on the district website this past year, you are no longer required to do so.  You will be completing a paper and pencil timesheet at the locations you serve each month.  Your supervisors will be signing them and they will either forward them to payroll for processing or on to Lisa for ACA tracking purposes.  Para-professional coaches will be turning their forms into the Athletic Department.  If you have any questions, please shoot Lisa an email  at or give us a call at 651-3787.  Have a great school year!
