iLearn@home Info 2016-2017 iLearn@home

In the Fall of 2014, the Kentucky Department of Education approved waivers that allowed thirteen school districts to use non-traditional means of instruction when school is cancelled because of weather or another emergency.  For 2015-16, the program was been expanded to include additional districts.  The Barren County School District was selected last year as one of thirty-one new districts to participate in this waiver program.   We are pleased to announce that Barren County was approved for 2016-2017 along with 71 other school districts to look at instruction on snow days (or other days that school would not be in session) differently.

The Barren County Schools have a long history of innovation and excellence, and the Non-Traditional Instruction    Program was a natural connection to all the forward-thinking initiatives we have in place.  Under the provisions of the waiver, a district may count up to TEN non-traditional instruction days as regular attendance days in its school calendar and not have to make them up.  Barren County Schools will likely never need all TEN days for non-traditional instruction, so our current plans are to prepare for up to five days for 2nd semester of 2016-17, if needed.   The Barren County Schools will be utilizing the first FIVE weather related closing days, as iLearn@home days.

At the end of this month, Barren County Middle School students will receive the five days of instruction from their teachers.  It is suggested that when students bring these lessons home that they be kept in a safe place until the announcement of the district designated "iLearn@Home Day".

ORCHESTRA TO PLAY CARNEGIE HALL photo of BC Orchestra

The Barren County High School Orchestra has some fantastic news! They have been chosen as one of only eight high school orchestras in the country to participate in the National Band and Orchestra Festival at Carnegie Hall in New York on April 15, 2017. We really could use your help as we rely on donations and fundraisers to pay for our travel expenses in order for our students to participate in this once in a lifetime event. Please select a sponsorship level below to show your support for the BCHS Orchestra Program. If you have no objections to your generosity being publicized, we will be including the names and levels of all donors in each printed concert program for next year as well as announcing them at each performance. If you have any questions, call Stacey Owen at 270-646-5900 or Amberly Bush at 270-791-8694.
