Lose to Win Spring Challenge Winner

Barren County Schools host “Lose to Win” Challenge

Barren County Schools, through its district wellness program called We Can Get Healthy with 95210, recently completed the second “Lose to Win” weight-loss challenge. This semester long program, held from January to April, was developed to bring the school and community together to make lifestyle changes through healthy eating, exercise and weight loss for those staff members who chose to participate. The winner for Spring 2016 semester was Mrs. Summer Childress, an employee of Hiseville Elementary School.  Mrs. Childress, along with two other staff members, achieved more than a 10% percent weight reduction. In addition, thirteen staff members lost a minimum of 5% of their total body weight.

District Science & Engineering Fair & Art Show

Barren County Schools hosted the annual District Science and Engineering Fair for grades 5-8 on Tuesday, March 22, 2016. Each of the district’s seven elementary schools and Barren County Middle school advanced their school-level winners to the district competition.   The event was held at the BCHS Trojan Academy which provided an excellent venue for the event and allowed students to experience the high school setting.  Students from the Trojan Academy Science Club, advance science classes, Trojan Ambassador Program and BCMS Magnet students assisted at the event by providing tours, conducting interviews, and serving as judges for the night.

In addition, the District conducted an Art Showcase that allowed each school to showcase the artistic talents of many students.  The art work was displayed throughout the event.

Thank you for your service to our school district.  If you completed an ACA electronic time sheet on the district website this past year, you are no longer required to do so.  You will be completing a paper and pencil timesheet at the locations you serve each month.  Your supervisors will be signing them and they will either forward them to payroll for processing or on to Lisa for ACA tracking purposes.  Para-professional coaches will be turning their forms into the Athletic Department.  If you have any questions, please shoot Lisa an email  at lisa.austin@barren.kyschools.us or give us a call at 651-3787.  Have a great school year!
