Retired Lieutenant Colonel Jeff Hughes at BCHS

On November 25, 2014, Retired Lieutenant Colonel Jeff Hughes subbed for CSM Wilkerson, one of the instructors of BCHS ARMY JROTC. Hughes was formerly an S-1, S-3, S-4 and S-5 staff officer as well as Battalion XO and Battalion Commander. Hughes has served 25 years in the Kentucky National Guard. While he was here, Hughes decided to teach the class about leadership roles and staff duties. He was very straight forward and a stern speaker. Hughes kept the class in order while still giving a powerful class about leadership and responsibility.
Barren County High School Band Students Successfully Audition for KMEA 3rd District Honors Band

Dr. Kip Crowder, Barren County High School Band Director, announced today the group of students who have successfully auditioned for the 3rd District Kentucky Music Education Association Honors Band. The KMEA 3rd District Honors Band is comprised of students from over 50 middle and high schools in the 13 counties of South Central Kentucky. Students are expected to play a piece of prepared music as well as sight read for a score in a blind audition (in other words, the judges can only hear the student performance, but cannot see their gender or know which school they come from). Only the top students from each audition are selected.

Rachel Perkins Receives Scholarship for PLTW Training

Rachel Perkins (PLTW Engineering Instructor) has been selected to receive the George M. Binder KSPE Past President’s Scholarship for Project Lead The Way. The total amount of this scholarship is $2,500 and will be used toward the PLTW tuition and expenses for her summer module training.
Erin Walton Wins 2013 Kentucky Public Service Recognition Week Poster Contest

School students throughout the state have shown their appreciation to public employees by participating in the annual Public Service Recognition Poster Contest. Over 2,700 posters, created around the theme “Making a difference every day in every way,” were received. The 2013 winners were recognized by Lt. Governor Jerry Abramson at a ceremony on Oct. 7 in Frankfort.
