Hi~ My name is Kellie Long, and I am extremely excited about my new position this year at North Jackson Elementary as the new ART and SCIENCE teacher. I will be teaching this integrated essential class for all of the students. These two areas are truly my passions.
Here is a brief bio of my teaching career & my family highlights. :)
I have taught a variety of grade levels in the Barren County school system throughout my twenty-one years of teaching. I earned a Bachelor's Degree, Master's Degree & Rank I certification (all in Elementary Education) from both the University of Kentucky and Western Kentucky University. For the past twenty-three years, I have lived with my family in rural Barren County. My husband,Ricky, is a farmer; my oldest son, Colby, is a Junior at WKU; and Tanner, our youngest son, will attend the Freshman Academy at BCHS.
My summer has included some new adventures that actually connect to my two loves...Science & Art. I am currently taking a Community Acrylic Art Education class with Patty Hughes, AND I recently purchased two kayaks. I look forward to spending time outdoors on local lakes & creeks once cooler temperatures arrive. Additionally, I visited Cades Cove in The Smokies and got to see a mother black bear in the wild with her three cubs. They were climbing at least thirty feet in the air to feed on the wild cherries! We loved watching them until they started to venture to the ground- that's when we all got back in the car!
Well, that's enough about me. Please check back periodically for updates to my new page. I will be adding our new class's curriculum map, ART SMART CLUB information, cool Art and Science websites, and definitely Student Artists of the Month highlights and a gallery of student work. Also, please stop in and visit our Science Lab/ Art Studio across from the gymnasium. You are welcome anytime & I can definitely use volunteers.
To access iLearn@home documents, please refer to your homeroom teacher's website. All of the art content is included in the homeroom teacher's packet. Thank you! If your student has a question about art iLearn@home activities, please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org!
