1. To participate in "No Charge" program each family shall complete a Household Income Form. Only one form is required per household.
2. All Barren County School students can receive one (1) breakfast, one (1) lunch and one (1) after school snack (where available) at no charge.
3. Any extra meals or a la carte items cannot be charged to student accounts unless the student has a positive balance to cover the expense.
4. Students can pay with cash to purchase extra items.
5. Previous meal charges will appear on student accounts and should be paid in full. For billing questions or payment plans, please contact Nutrition Services at (270)651-3787.
6. Guardians can monitor student lunch and breakfast accounts as well as make online payments by visiting the "My Payment Plus" quick link on the Barren County Schools website ( http://www.barren.kyschools.us).

Barren County Schools Nutrition Services is excited to announce an amendment to its policy for serving meals to students under the National School Lunch / School Breakfast Programs for the 2017-18 school year through a program called Community Eligibility Provision or CEP. All students will be served reimbursable lunch/breakfast at no charge at the following sites:
· Austin Tracy Elementary School
· Eastern Elementary School
· Hiseville Elementary School
· North Jackson Elementary School
· Park City Elementary School
· Red Cross Elementary School
· Temple Hill Elementary School
· BC College Street Campus
Barren County Middle School
Barren County High School/Trojan Academy
CEP is a program offered through the National School Lunch and Breakfast Programs that allow schools and local educational agencies (LEAs) located in low-income areas to provide free breakfast and lunch to all students. Our district was able to combine the percentages needed to participate to create a group of schools that will have "No Charge" breakfasts and lunches.
1. To help us keep this program in place, it is extremely important that the Household Income Forms be completed by each family in the schools mentioned above.
2. For students to get a “no charge” breakfast and lunch, students MUST take a full meal. (For instance, at breakfast and lunch, students must get a serving of fruit or vegetable to make a complete meal in addition to other meal pattern requirements.) Cashiers will guide students to get a complete meal so there is not charge. But students could still be charged for “extra or a la carte” items if they choose to purchase those. “Share tables” will be available for students at these sites to reduce waste for some items.
What are the potential benefits to this program?
- Parent can experience convenience of not packing lunches.
- Families will see reduced costs by not paying for meals.
- Some families could have disposable income to invest in other educational endeavors.
- Research has shown that students who eat school meals perform their best academically.
- Healthy eating correlates with less trips to the school nurse and less absenteeism.
- Students who eat school breakfast have greater gains in standardized test scores and show improvements in math, reading and vocabulary scores.
