Barren County Students Excel at Midwest “Chinese Bridge” High School Speech Contest

Contestants from six states gathered at Valparaiso University, Valparaiso, Indiana.   

Malena Hughes, from Barren County Middle School, won the Best Speaker Award and First Place in level one division.  Aubrey Render, from Barren County High School, won third place in level two. 
Both contestants were coached by the WKUCI Chinese teacher LI XIA.   Malena and Aubrey demonstrated good speaking skills Chinese in the speech round and displayed their appreciation for the Chinese culture by their dedicated performance in the talent shows, as well as, taking a Chinese written exam.  Both students represented the Barren County Schools and WKUCI well, as Malena and Aubrey impressed the audience and the Chinese Consulate.

Barren County FBLA Celebrates FBLA Week BC FBLA

Future Business Leaders of America-Phi Beta Lambda is a nonprofit educational organization whose first chapter was established in Johnson City, Tennessee, in 1942. This organization has grown now to encompass over 250,000 members and advisers nationwide in middle schools, high schools, colleges, universities, career and technical schools, and private business schools. FBLA-PBL is a professional business organization dedicated to bringing business and education together in a positive working relationship through innovative leadership and career development programs. Members perform community service activities and strive to build a student’s understanding of the realities of the modern business world. FBLA teaches high school students basic business and leadership principles; and PBL helps university, college, technical, and business school students to make the transition from school to work.
